simple fun in the neighborhood?

After launching this "Fun not fear" campaign, I went out for the beautiful day in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

I visited a local artist coop gallery - 440 Gallery - where I met the artist Amy Williams and got to learn about this group of artists. Amy was great. If you live in Brooklyn you should go visit these guys (and if not go online to their site). 

The painting to the left is by local artist, Ellen Chuse. Love the colors. 

Then I went to the Brooklyn Public Library. I picked up five books I had reserved online. I recommend you use your local library.

I plan to celebrate the launch of Fun not Fear by taking a walk around Bernal Heights with my sister and pulling some weeds in the garden. It's a beautiful Saturday in San Francisco!

On Sunday I'll be hosting a music school recital, and as usual, to convince the kids that there's nothing to be afraid of, I'll get up and make a certified fool of myself and then remind them that no one is perfect, we all look silly now and then, and so how's that hurt anything?
The most foolish people I know are the ones who take themselves oh-so-seriously.

Love this. Twenty five years ago I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kingston, Jamaica. I would marvel that even though people had but a few dollars and at best a promise of some corn meal from the government they were for the most part amazingly cool. Lesson there - in the words of Bob Marley "Lively up yourself and don't be no drag"

Let us celebrate each day by doing something nice for ourselves and practice being kind to others.

I am looking out my window at a lake where my pasture used to be (thanks to torrential rains overnight). I plan on saddling up my horse and training her on crossing water.
